Toru Umehara Solo Exhibition: “Our Holes”

In this exhibition, “Our Holes,” Umehara takes as her starting point what she calls “Okinawa’s magnetic field.” Working in collaboration with the Ryukyu Indigo Research Institute, she has created dyeing works using <RYUKYU BLUE®>, based on original frottage drawings of landscapes and traces collected during her field research.
By layering these with multi-dimensional materials—such as sounds recorded on-site, textiles, and images of the landscape—she constructs a new space where multiple times and boundaries intersect.

In this exhibition, where sight, sound, and overlapping timelines resonate, visitors can experience the “presence” and “fluctuations” inherent to the land of Okinawa through all five senses.
